Most common distortion is starting too up breaking upper margins. But with just reported situation (OO.o 3.1.1 in Ubuntu 9.10) saving to Word 97 etc format OpenOffice.org Writer is crashing. So I can confirm this bug but it seems to be quite limited by versions.
