This problem reminds me of issue 46968, which also happened on a PCL printer. The workaround there was to use a PCL6 or a Postscript driver instead of PCL5 or to reduce the printer setting "resolution" to 300dpi. Since your XP seems to use a PCL6 (a.k.a. PCLXL) driver, the fact that printing there seems to work confirms this picture...
