For the past year or two I've been off on other assignments. Now that I'm back I'm trying to update all of our older tools. While trying to install the 3.2.0 release, I'm told that I *must* have root access to install the package. All of our freeware tools are installed under a non-root user account and I do not have root access. The last installation I did was for the version2.0 series and it did not require root access. There is absolutely nothing about this application that requires it to be installed as the root user. Installing tools under a non-root account actually priovides a better level of security for the use of the tools. Forcing a requirement of root access to install the tool is just plain silly.
