------- Additional comments from jkaufm...@openoffice.org Sat May 8 20:42:43 +0000 2010 ------- jkaufmann->MRU > If you (and others) are sure, that you have discovered a bug, > please file a new issue - it is the most convenient way to handle. > But only do this, if you are sure, that it is a bug ... Since you mention "and others", I wrote to two persons (from the thread cited above) who have recently observed the problem, to see if they concur with a bug report. While I wait for their replies, may I observe a possible communication problem that seems to impede out progress, and see if we can figure out how to overcome it? I ask questions that get no answers and suggestions that get no acknowledgment. For example: - I asked if we could exchange examples: You send me an example which is working, and I send you one where it appears to be not working. My purpose is yours - "only do this [file a report], if you are sure, that it is a bug" - yet I received no reply to that suggestion. - I asked if it is really better to issue another duplicate bug report, when there have already been so many marked CLOSED:DUPLICATE. This seems like a reasonable question, intended to minimize the burden, but no reply. To minimize the time needed to get to a solution, would it not make our communication better - more efficient - if we reply directly to each other? > - this is not a support formum here and we do not have > the resources to grant support for a "free of charge" product. I sympathize. None of us has the resources for extraneous problems. That's why I value efficient communication. Much of what I do, "free of charge", is simply trying to do the right thing, which includes promoting OpenOffice. So I want it to work, preferably work well - an objective I know we share. Finally, with respect to bug reports: When an issue is marked "FIXED", does anyone close the loop with the filer of the bug report? Is there even any way to tell WHO filed the report? A few posts above, I mentioned three other bug reports that I found when my search turned up this one. I just went through the comments and find 22 other issues marked as CLOSED:DUPLICATE of this one. That means at least 23 other people have already filed bug reports similar to one I could write. Has any one of them been contacted to see if the issue is resolved for them? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
