But it's impossible to type then an English text with an English keyboard using this font.... Do you think it's ok? I think so. Why? Because the purpose of symbol fonts is most of the time to be used by programs (e.g. Math) or provide a character library which can be inserted character by character (e.g. using Insert - Special character in OOo) but NOT to be used while typing! Even if the word "Symbol" appears in the name of the font "Symbol" and "OpenSymbol" those are different fonts. There is no need to have the same mapping in OpenSymbol than in Symbol just like the Prado does not need to exhibit the Mona Lisa because the Louvres does. As a defect, this issue is invalid. As a feature request it is a WONTFIX. As I said, symbol fonts are not made to be typed. Thus there is no requirement to align ourselves to "Symbol". Allowing what Symbol does would allow users to *believe* they have entered an alpha (U+0391) but they have entered a very different character (U+F041 in Symbol and U+E0AF in OpenSymbol) which is not an alpha but looks like this in Symbol and OpenSymbol only. If those fonts are not present of an other system, the character will not display alpha anymore. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
