If this cannot be recognized, the user should be permitted to define private formats. It's not that helpful to offer language setups only. Example: YYYY-MM-DD, hh:mm would be a valid date format, according to DIN/ISO standards in Germany. The other, traditional German setup would be D.M.YYY, h:mm Uhr. The ISO setting is represented better e.g. by the Swedish language setup - but there's no choice at all to use e.g. YYYY-MM only. I'm afraid that German setup would not even be the default for the German OOo version. It is possible in Writer to define those formats, but it is not possible in Impress.
