The interactive resizing using the mouse works differently. I agree that for
resizing images keeping the aspect ratio would be the better choice, but I don't
believe that this is true also for other drawing objects. So we had to make our
UI inconsistent. That wouldn't be a problem for me, if we hadn't the current
behavior for 10 years now. Changing this just for images would annoy our users
too much, I'm afraid.
So IMHO we shouldn't change the default for interactive resizing.
I also don't think that this problem is important enough to add yet another
option somewhere in our overloaded dialogs.
