Similar to # 108803.
After installation of vs. 3 over 2.3, the file associations 
for .doc, .ppt, .xls, etc. were broken.  Using the Windows default programs 
function, for example .doc, shows two icons for Open Office Writer.  It is not 
possible to tell which one is the new version.  Program Files still has a 
directory for Open Office 2.3, but it is empty.  Either way, neither of them 
works to associate the .doc file with Open Office swrite.exe when one uses the 
Browse option.

Worked for .docx, which was not associated/assigned previously.
