I am running Windows XP SP3 with all security patches up to date as of today, 
Thursday, 6/24/10.
I was running OO 3.2.0 and got this "Checking for an update failed." when I 
tried 
to check updates from the Help Menu and from Tools/Options Menu "Online Update" 
with Check Now under OpenOffice.org.  I then went online and downloaded 3.2.1 
from 
the OO website and installed it. I get the same result from both options with 
3.2.1.
I welcome suggestions about what is wrong because having Tools set to automatic 
update does not stop this problem.
