------- Additional comments from product...@openoffice.org Tue Jun 29 08:52:52 +0000 2010 ------- I have received an .xls file which was almost certainly produced in Excel. I would like to put a date into cell K4 and then have cell A10 refer to that date, using the following formula in A10: =K4 I have a similar .xls file (possibly saved from an earlier version of Excel) in which I can do the same thing OK. In the file that has the problem, however, I observe the following: 1. K4 contains what appears to be a valid date; for example, I entered 11/15/02 (just for testing) and OO Calc automatically changed this to 11/15/2002. 2. Double-click cell A10 to open the cell for editing. 3. Press the = key on the keyboard. The = character appears in the cell. 4. Click cell K4. The formula in A10 changes to =K4 5. Press the Enter key on the keyboard. 6. An "Unrecognized Date" message box appears. When I OK the message box, cell A10 remains blank. * The format of both K4 and A10 (Format > Cells... > Numbers tab) is M/D/YYYY * I have looked for macros in the document (Tools > Macros > Organize Macros > OpenOffice.org Basic...), and I don't think there are any macros in the document. * I have opened the Styles and Formatting palette (Format > Styles and Formatting); no special style is applied to either A10 or K4. * When I save the problem file in .xls format, then re-open the file, the problem still occurs. * The workaround suggested on the forum was to copy K4 and paste it into A10. This does prevent the Unrecognized Date message box from occurring when I later put formula =K4 into cell A10, BUT: - Formatting which I don't want in cell A10 (background color, borders) is pasted into A10 along with the date. - If I use Paste Special and untick Formats in the Paste Special dialog, then the Unrecognized Date message box still occurs when I try to put the formula =K4 into cell A10. Testing was done on Windows Vista. I intend to attach a sample .xls file, showing the problem, to this issue as soon as I have submitted it. The version of Excel from which the file was saved is most likely Excel 2007. I plan to update this issue with that information if I can find it out, and if that info still seems to be needed when I get it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
