I used Ubuntu 9.10 as my primary operating system for a couple of months, I never experienced the same issues. It seems the OS only affects Ubuntu 10.04. I am not sure, however, if it affects Windows, Mac OS, and the other Linux distribution. To hdu I never tested it without an internet connection.
