As I remember when I used MS Word (long time ago), it was more logical : - if you select only words, only character format is copied and pasted - if you include mark of paragraph end in your selection (even if it's hidden), both characters and paragraph formats are copied and pasted. I think it should work like this in Writer because it offers the most flexible use. Otherwise, we should have on option to choose charac/paragraph/both format to paste.
