Evidently, there is a regression... Trying to build 3.2.1 (320 m19) on
FreeBSD-8.1 using --with-system-openssl:

checking which libssl to use... external
checking for openssl ... Package openssl was not found in the pkg-config search
path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `openssl.pc' to the
PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'openssl' found
configure: error: Library requirements (openssl ) not met; consider adjusting
the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard
prefix so pkg-config can find them.

It is a shame, that the FreeBSD port is not using the system's OpenSSL or this
regression would've been caught long ago...
