Having the style of a paragraph appear right next to the paragraph in the "Style Area" (as it is called in Word) is a very fast & convenient way to ensure that each paragraph is allocated to the correct style. It is very frustrating where paragraphs **appear** to have the same style, only to find that some paragraphs no longer have the correct appearance because they did not have the correct style to start with (when making a change to a style definition, for example).
