reproduce anything." - Not sure I can help much with this - I don't think I've 
even saved the corrupted file lately.  I use it as a template - It's 
boilerplate for a technical report.  Typically, I open it, type up a report and 
save it as a different filename.  The last time I did this, everything was 
fine.  Between then and getting a corrupted file, I think all I've done is use 
the USB stick to transfer some files around, usually JPEG's and TIFF's.  I've 
also edited image files on the USB stick using Irfanview and GIMP.

It starts with..." - The last couple times this happened, I can't say I payed 
very close attention to the contents of the corrupted files. I was too busy 
slamming my head into my desk in frustration.  I did have the impression that 
they were just symbols, though, not any intelligible text, like this file.

I do have a portable version of Firefox on the USB stick, which I frequently 
use for web browsing.
