Sorry I didn't think of this :O Instead of the new OpenSymbol, my tests were actually using the system-wide font, installed by Fedora's package of OOo 3.2. If I repeat the tests where I know 330m2 uses the new font file, then I get normal results, in fact the spacing I see is now less than before, as mru noted above. I'm running 32-bit X86.
