That is because if a paper format is not found the search for an alternative will also try to match the corresponding landscape format (and vice versa) to find the most appropriate format - which is kind of hard to do since the AcuLaser PPD as is only supports Letter and A4. I would not consider that a bug, but you might want a method to switch it off, too ? In retrospect I'd like to have done that in 3.3 since you won't be the only one trying to use a user format paper to get the job done regardless of what the printer actually supports. For that purpose the new paper matching as well as the centering is a change for the worse.
