The insert>object->Video instead relies on installed browser plugins on the system and displays the movie as an applet inside the document, which is more of an old style feature to allow embedding of media files into the document. Please check if you have all appropriate codecs installed on the system. Care needs to be taken with several Quicktime plugin packs, because we had several crashes inside them from time to time. Best idea would be to install one of the AllInOne codec packs available (e.g. CCCP). Could you verify this, please.
