So this functionality is already in OpenOffice.org's Status bar but it is not implemented for all applications. I can only guess if this is a priority case (Basic macro is more important than text document) or a marketing case (free Writer is keep somehow lame so other text processors sell better) or just a case of ... It would be nice if Status bar may be modified by user.
