I have used Open Office Writer to create a manuscript for an e-book. It
contains hyperlinks to external URLs and also internally to different locations
in the document. The publisher (Lulu) requires that fonts are embedded and I
have used the Export to PDF function using the PDF/A-1a function to embed fonts
(required).

When I open the PDF in Adobe Reader 9, the hyperlinks are disabled but they
work OK in Adobe Reader 8.

Adobe have indicated that Adobe Reader 9 does not support the PDF/A-1a and
confirmed that today with this note:

"As per the PDF/A standard, a "conforming reader" SHOULD disable hyperlinks in
a PDF/A conforming file. Since Adobe Reader 9 is a conforming PDF/A reader, it
therefore follows that recommendation from the standard.

I expect that this will have significance to Open Office users who rely of the
PDF/A-1a function to create PDFs hwich might be opened with Adobe Reader 9 as
people upgrade to version 9. I also image that Adobe Reader is the most common
PDF reader used by consumers of e-books and other PDF documents.

Is there anything the Open Office network can do about this.
