Using RPMs on no RPM based linux systems is problematic. After a few days of
trying, I got "rpm" installed. Do you know you can not find rpm source in a
tar.gz? rpm source only comes as an srpm? Chicken, Egg?

Soi I got 1.9.79 installed. Love it. So then I update to 1.9.95. Once again
I have to fake out the broken dependencies, but it alos will not install
alongside the old Beta. Only way I can get it to install is an as Update. Not
happy about that, especially in a beta.

So then I get all these ugly message in the install. I would like to tell you
what is going wrong, but of course the rpm installer deletes the tmp files.

# rpm -U --nodeps  *rpm
which: no update-mime-database in (/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin)
/tmp/install.12696: rpm: command not found
/tmp/install.12696: [: ==: unary operator expected
which: no update-desktop-database in
(/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin)

/tmp/install.12756: [: ==: unary operator expected
/tmp/install.12768: rpm: command not found

error: execution of %post scriptlet from
openofficeorg-mandrakelinux-menus-1.9.95-1 failed, exit status 127
/tmp/install.12852: rpm: command not found

hobbes:/usr/local/archive/OO/RPMS# /tmp/install.12907: rpm: command not found
/tmp/install.12907: [: ==: unary operator expected

Not sure what bad assumptions your install script made. 2 minutes of testing
and the install looks fine. This is OK for a hacker like me, but the old
installer was way more user friendly and robust. Never had problems like this
with OO 1.
