The Mac OS X build environment is currently designed to work with GCC 4.0. One
reason is that the 10.4 SDK (see issue 114477) only builds with GCC 4.0. Also
see issue 110061 "automatically configure CC=gcc-4.0 on Mac OS X 10.6."
Support for GCC 4.2 would thus be a sub-issue of an enhancement issue to allow
building against SDKs newer than 10.4 (see issue 114477).
