Documents created using OpenOffice.org Writer and saved as ODT - the default -
cannot be opened. This problem first occurred about Sept 29, 2010.

When I attempt to open an existing ODT document a message box indicates an
invalid action with the words,
"The requested operation requires elevation"

However if I right-click an ODT document & select NEW, User Account Control
will prompt me to allow/cancel <soffice.exe> access to my computer. When I
allow access the selected document opens.

I have OO.o Writer pinned to Start Menu and the same invalid-action message now
occurs when I attempt to open it to create a new document.

Similarly, if I right-click on OO.o Writer in Start Menu, select 'Run as
administrator' and allow <soffice.exe> access, voila, a new document pane opens.

Yesterday (Sept 30 2010) I stumbled across a service message somewhere
indicating the OpenOffice Writer program software had crashed. I deinstalled
the software & reinstalled latest version without result.

I do have full administrator rights to this laptop.

Regards & thanks,

Geoff Burton
