2010 -------
I happened to re-install my remote printer server this weekend. In my
configuration I prepare the print output on my local machine, forward it to the
printer server where it is printed in raw mode. When configuring the printer
locally and on the printer server again I took care to use as default settings
for both: preserve dimensions.

Now the dimensions of the printed rectangle are exactly as required. So the
problem was situated in cups/printer and not in openoffice.org. It is of course
strange that the problem did not occur with other tools like GIMP but I suppose
this is due to the way openoffice.org uses the printing system.

Anyway thanks for the effort spent and the quick response.
