When a long document in Web Layout view saves or autosaves, text in seemingly
random parts of the document (usually at the end or more rarely in the middle,
not at the beginning) extends beyond the right boundary of the document so that
part of it is not visible. OR the text stops short before the boundary. If the
cursor is on the affected paragraph, it's not really in the place where it
appears to be. The issue happens by paragraphs. The issue does not always
happen, I guess it can depend on the place of editing. Edits/saves that happen
in the middle or near the end of the document are most often the kinds that
induce this problem.
The issue fixes itself on one paragraph if any text in the paragraph is edited,
though I have sometimes encountered cases when it didn't, but I don't know when
that happens. Changing the text area by resizing the window always fixes the
issue for all paragraphs. Scrolling the document doesn't fix it.
I'm unsure how long the document needs to be or whether this affects all
documents. It seems to happen when several (maybe 5 or more?) styles are used in
the document. I have attached (hopefully, I don't know for sure how this works)
two documents where I could achieve this problem and screenshots that illustrate
the problem. I have replaced the actual text with gibberish. The files are in
oobuggy.zip.
On the rightbug.odt document, the problem occurs as I described above and
rightbug.png is a screenshot I took of a view of the problem. leftbug.odt is a
different document where a similar problem occurs, but instead of extending
beyond the right border, it stops short before the right border: leftbug.png
shows the problem.
rightbug_d1.png, rightbug_d2.png and rightbug_d3.png illustrate fixing the issue
step by step. In rightbug_d1.png, the document has been saved and the text is
extending beyond the right boundary. In rightbug_d2.png, I have inserted a
character in the paragraph and the text has realigned itself and its last line
is now on another line. A ghost-image of the text is still just outside the
boundary (I don't know what that ghost-text is, probably a separate bug, but it
doesn't affect functionality). In rightbug_d3.png, the document was saved, the
ghost-text disappeared and the edited paragraph remained bug-free, but the
others remained affected with the problem.
This problem happened with older versions of OO.org Writer too, but I can't
remember when I first noticed it.
