I have no idea if this is the right subject line. I could not find anything
that really fit my issue.

Recently I downloaded Version 3. Now when I create a word document and file
it, I chose to save it as a Windows 97/2000/XP (.doc). It goes through the
motions of saving it that way, but when I try to open the document again, it
does not know what program to use. So I pick "OpenOffice.org Writer.

The previous version of Open Office knew what to use to open the (.doc) file
extensions and the (.odt) file extensions.

Looking at the list of files, the icons indicate that the file is not stored
with a (.doc) file extension.

Why will this program not save things as I have chosen?
