I agree with the other user, that it is not intuitive. Let people choose the number format they want and don't override it automatically. Maybe content recognition should only be used when the user did not choose a number format themselves. As soon as they have chosen one, writer should not change it automatically even when other content is placed in the cell. It's disappointing to see that this issue has been around for a long time now.
