I have been using Star Office/Open Office suits for about 4 years.
When working on a document I used to save to file frequently, hitting (Cntl+S)
after every paragraph. As you know, Open Office saves files very slow.
Comparing with MS Word it takes about 15-17 times longer.
I thought that the problem might be in compressed file format and found a
work-around, saving OO documents in MS Office format. doc and xls. That made
saving a document much faster.
However, in OO 2 ( 1.9.. ) saving in MS office formats takes much longer - as
much as 4 times longer comparing with OO 1.
Working on old machines with CPU about 500KHz this difference between OO1 and OO
2 is very significant.
