Slackware 10 Linux, OpenOffice.org 1.9.95
Operation as the root user

I monitor the Users mail list and several messages appeared regarding recovery
of documents after crashes. I thought this was most unusal. So I decided to
test it out. I was using 1.1.4 before and when I tested that it worked OK.
But
under 1.9.95 I have not been able to recover even one file, nor any method to
enable such to acheive recovery. I have set and enabled the autorecovery
feature in the options dialog to 1 minute. That appears to be working OK. I
have verified the content.xml file actually contains the lost data. But it is
not retrieved automatically when I reopen the file. Perhaps my test procedure
is incorrect but it seems to be a valid method. Also, I have tested with both
a
saved document and an unsaved document using the name of untitled1 and had the
same results.

First create a new document and enter some data.
Save the file as .odt file type (default)
Enter some more data, different enough to easily identify it.
Wait for autorecovery feature to work. (Mine set to 1 minute and visible action
bar will be displayed.)
Then kill all the tasks that are named soffice or soffice.bin
Verify the recovery file exists and data is contained in the content.xml file.
Restart OO and open your document.
It will be where it was actually last saved. Appearing to not even check for
the autorecovery information. Neither am I prompted regarding recovery.

However, if I add some more data and then wait again, it is added again to the
recovery file after the earlier lost data. If I then save the file with the
new
data I just added and then exit. The recovery information remains and is not
deleted. It should have been deleted since the file was saved prior to the
exit. I suppose it is not because it was preexisting when the doc was opened.

When I create a new doc and add some data and then wait, the autorecovery is
created in the untitled_1.odt tree. When I save the doc the autorecovery tree
is renamed using the new doc name. Then after a short time it is deleted
entirely. So add some data and wait. The tree is then recreated again. I
close OOo and save the file and the recovery tree is deleted. I think this
demonstrates the tree should be deleted, or else I would end up with these for
every doc I work on taking up space.

When I killed OOo, I used KDE System Guard to highlight the tasks and then used
the kill button. I would think this should be sufficient since the program
terminated, left the recovery information, and did not prompt regarding saving
the file.

I was not able to locate any documentation on the autorecovery feature except
how to enable and set the timer. So I have to conclude it should be automatic
when the saved file is reopened or if a new doc, and a new doc started again,
it
should locate the tree if it exists and then add from the contents there where
it needs to restore the file to that last point.

I found an earlier issue started on a considerably older beta version but
without any real resolution. So I thought it best to start a new issue since
the Version 2.0 is so close to release. On the User mail list, another user
was
able to verify that Windows XP platform was working under this same version of
1.9.95.

Please advise if my test procedure is flawed or if I can provide any more
information regarding my procedures.

Thank you,
James
