Mac OS X 10.4.1, the installer "Could not launch OpenOffice.org"

Details:
/Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.2//program/soffice: line 292: 1497 Segmentation
fault "$sd_prog/
setup" - nogui -R:${TMPFILE}
/Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.2//program/soffice: Can´t perform required
Workstation Install,
exiting.

similiar problems are reproducable on a macosx 10.3.x inst after updating to
the X11, xcode from the
10.4.0 cd. the previous working OOo "Could not launch OOo" after the update.
iirc both are installed, gcc4.x, gcc3.x

remarks:
i could not find a newer OOo-powerpc.
NeoOffice1.1 rc (i could not find a newer version) is working but is
*extremely* slow even on a dual 2
ghz powermac out of the box, 1gb ram, 230mb sata.
