What version of OpenOffice are you using? Because I tried it again and it has 
shown the 0 again. You only have to change the sting "456" in the textfile 
to "4 56" and reload the data source or document again. Now it shows a 0 
for "stringtext" instead of the string and if you look the column format up it 
shows that this column is interpreted as a number and not as a string.
