------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 29 10:06:56 -0700 2005 ------- Please see Issue 37530. The problem is that I use OOo on linux (RH9), which uses EUC format for Japanese usually. The default setup creates a minefield that sometimes affects my job. To be specific, I open a Japanese MS Word document in OOo and translate it into English. I usually save in OOo format and then resave to .doc but sometimes just to .doc. I used to be in the habit of supplying a separate text file with a memo about issues regarding the job. However, this saves an EUC formatted .txt file, which people in the Windows world cannot easily read. The response I got in the referenced issue is that it is a matter of the default environment. However this does not solve the real world problem easily. I would like to submit a request for a feature that notes whether you often save to Windows format, and if so, should you be about to save an EUC .txt file it will pop up an alert asking you if it should change to SJIS format so that Windows machines can read it easily. It should likewise default to SJIS if you have recently saved a .doc, and ask if you want EUC for compatibility with linux/unix filesystems. Thanks for the opportunity to make a suggestion.
