/usr/share/pixmaps is a legacy location and will hopefully go away in near
future (will only stay as a fallback for old apps).
The OOo icons are in /usr/share/icons/ (given you installed a
desktop-integration package). The desktop-integration package will even create
launchers for you.
Icons are meant to be specified without absolute path so the right version for
the current size can be taken by the application. Furthermore you don't even
need to specify the extension, so that a fallback to a scalable version can
occur if needed.
Icons are included in the desktop-integration packages -> worksforme.
