ok, looked into this a little bit more.
this issue probably should be renamed "takes a lot more of ram to print a file
than 1.1" or something.

first, some starting stats :

---------memory consumption, in megabytes
1.1.4. - oo.org just started (writer)
oo.org - 45
X - 11

1.1.4. - testcase document open
oo.org - 54
X - 11

m109 - oo.org just started (writer)
oo.org - 53
X - 11

m109 - testcase document open
oo.org - 62
X - 11

so there is some difference (m109 takes more ram), but it's relatively small.

now let's try printing. see attached spreadsheet for statistics while printing.
these stats were gathered by scripts - but when m109 was printing, system
considerably slowed down, so that script was delayed (it tried to take stat,
sleep for a second, take next value) and less values were gathered for oo.org
(where the script was slightly more complicated) - this means that results are
not correctly aligned in time, but more or less peaks in both x and oo.org
match.

as can be seen, printing from m109 uses a _lot_ more memory than 1.1.4. - both
x
and oo.org memory usage climbs up to several hundred megs.

if m109 gets enough ram, it eventually prints the file.

given that 1.1.4 on the same machine prints using less ram (and also does it
almost instantly, instead m109 takes approx 30 seconds), i'd say this is oo.org
problem - and a serios regression, too, so i'm reopening this issue.
