Apart that from the screenshot I can not see too much, this reminds me on issue
49902.
What distri are you using and what's the version of your XServer?
I assume this is an issue of the "x-advance" width function of the XServer's
damage extension.
Try disabeling the RENDER extension of the XServer (which also disables damage)
and see whether that helps.
The command should look similar to "X [:<display>] -extension RENDER"
