Yes, they do not set the sheet name in front of the cell, but the reference itself *is* absolute as indicated by the '$' in front of the reference. Calc places the absolute Sheet reference in front of the absolute cell reference to give developers the freedom to decide how they will use their references. b) Yes, we are in line with Excel and the others ! We use absolute addressing in conditional formatting as the others do. And this has to be done in this way because a change would interfere with usability for Excel users migrating to Calc. c) There are no buttons, yes. But to decide about the addressing you only need to know what the '$' signs are about. And this is Basic knowledge for Spreadsheet designers. IMHO this Issue is invalid, but I will leave it open so others can comment on it.
