It is good that OOo is not a clone and that sorting-mechanism is consistent within OOo. Changing this is not worth the effort. Furthermore the current behaviour is straightforward. Changing it would make sorting of only parts of a table impossible. You can sort the whole table without much effort: either select nothing or select all. Please accept the decision that the behaviour won't be changed. Feel free to find a programmer that changes this behaviour and use a customized version of OOo.
