I would like to use Linux on my PC. But its still poor hardware recognition
and support and missing software tools make me an unvoluntary user of MS
Windows as well, probably for a long time to come. I think I'm not the only
one.

As these 2 OS' coexist nicely I have asked myself, whether the software
structure of OO would need a lot of changes to make it possible to use OO from
both OS' (stored only once on an MS partition with a file system that is
compatible with Linux).

I can imagine that most of your code (at least for one hardware platform) is
not depending on the OS; only the links to the OS created or placed at the
installation process are fundamentally different. Or are at execution time the
links to the interfaces of the hardware drivers, logs and error handling
embedded in the functional code?

If everything is clearly structured (=separated) in OO, solving this issue can
not be a great task.
If the structure is insufficient, an overhaul in regard of this aspect would
make all your future corrections and enhancements a lot easier and largely
independant of the supported platforms or for the implementation of new
platforms.

In any case it would prevent everybody in this situation from downloading
every release twice. (But it would add a complication to the
installation/update/repair process on Linux systems.)

With best regards
Bruno Naumann
