2005 -------
1. the diff of the produced PDF files shows nothing at all that could influence
the font rendering, obviously all the same fonts are used.
2. the output looks of the "good" 1.1.2 and "bad"  1.9.71 file look exactly the
same in ghostview, gv and kghostscript.

This leads to the conclusion, that there is something amiss outside the PDF
files themselves. I suspect that your viewers use different ghostscript
installations and/or font paths than they did when you used 1.1.2.

I don't think we can do anything here.
