This sounds like issue 51157, but since you set version to m123, it can't be
issue 51157 (which is fixed in m116). Hmm.

AFAIK, Writer still has some situations were it releases a database connection
only when the document is closed - this might be one of them.

If you did this, then the database is of course connection, and thus the .odb

Still, your description is not what I would call "reproducible". Please provide
a step-by-step description of what you're doing, so we have a chance 
reproducing it.

Well, in OOo 1.1.4 you did not have any .odb files, so it's hardly possible to
run a macro overwriting an .odb file in 1.1.4 ....
