I find that muting Synth _and_ Mic eliminates all "waterfall" noises. Not ideal, of course. But, then again, I haven't had any success ever making the kernel OSS/free driver work for me, so I have nothing to compare against, thus alsa is by far the best alternative :) -- Erik I.
