Thanks for the work!

I wish I could be more helpful... unfortunately, all I can say is
this: I've just downloaded cvs alsa again, make clean everywhere,
reinstall driver libs & utils... depmod -a ... reboot, alsasound
start, and I'm seeing the same thing: very high chance of system
freeze on alsa startup. It happens at least 50% of the time for me.
This is in single-user mode with hardly anything running, so it's
nothing to do with X.

Any idea what else I could try?
