excellent!  :-)  that's certainly the right answer.  ;-)

so, now that i have a soundcard (aztech galaxy) that works with
oss/sgalaxy, but not with alsa/snd-card-sgalaxy, on the same machine,
it seems like i should be able to debug this.  (under alsa, writes
and flushes fail with an EIO and the message "snd:  playback flush
error (DMA or IRQ trouble?)".

any tips on the best approach?  i suppose i'll get it via brute force
eventually, but any techniques or tips would be much appreciated.  i
guess i'll start by ensuring that the same config values are written
to the card in both cases, and that the kernel resources are allocated
the same.
