libasound is the alsa library, so you either need the alsa source (from the 
alsa web site - compiling will put them in /usr/local/include/alsa assuming 
you install to /usr/local) or an appropriate package from your distro. 

Version 0.9 is the latest, so if you're using Debian then you probably need 
to look in testing or unstable (but I guess you're a Suse user from your 
email address... :-)
