hi there. i just recently got a secondhand sb live! (don't know what version
- it has gold connectors on the back, if it helps) with a live! drive. it
didn't come with any manuals/docs of any sort.

i've got alsa 0.9b9 compiled from source on my debian "woody" system. it
seems to work fine, but i'm completely mystified by a few things.

1. i can't record from the microphone input on my live! drive. plugging a mic
into the mic jack on the card works fine. i've got the gain knob on the l!d
turned up to abour 70%, and i have "line livedrive" turned up (max) & set to
capture. i can monitor the mic input, why won't it record? headphone jack
on l!d works fine.

2. where do i find a list of what the mixer controls (i'm using alsamixer,
btw) actually _do_? i couldn't get my dvd-rom drive to play cds when it was
hooked up via the s/pdif input, but i eventually discovered that turning up
the "iec958 ttl" mixer control and unmuting "adc/dac loopback" made it work.
sure, that was obvious. also, why are there two of each of the "emu10k1 pcm
0-31" controls, four of the "emu10k1 pcm send 0-31" controls, and four
"emu10k1 send routing 0-31" controls? and what's the _hell_ is an "lfe"?

3. why are the record-toggle buttons linked for some controls? for example, i
can't have "line", "cd", "mic", and "aux" set to capture at the same time. i
also can't have both of them turned off, since if i try to toggle capture on
one of these devices, it won't turn off. other examples: "video" & "phone".

i poked around geocrawler's archive for alsa-user, but it seems to lack a
search function.... but i didn't see other people with the same problems.

anyways... just feeling lost, confused & frustated. please make sure i get
cc'd on replies, since i'm not on the list - thanks.
