Hello List!
I have a Sony FX405 notebook with AMD Athlon4 and VIA686a sound chip.
Except for the kernel, that SuSE delivers, I couldn't get sound to work.
I have worked out the following things now:
* "standard" kernel 2.4.16 tells me an IRQ routing conflict for the sound
device 00:07.05: have irq 5, want irq 10
sharing irq 10 with <other device>
* SuSE kernel 2.4.16 tells me
sharing irq 5 with <other device>
IRQ 5 is the correct one and works.
* The sonypi device (sony programmable I/O controller) uses IO/O 0x1080
and 0x1084, while the via686 sound uses 0x1000-0x10ff. If sonypi is
loaded, the sound can't be loaded and the other way round.
The OSS driver also finds the wrong IRQ and doesn't work. I tried lots of
kernel parameters (pci=conf2;conf1;nobios;..... everything) but it didn't
help. I always compiled my own kernels, but now I'm stuck with SuSE (which
isn't really bad, but I would rather like to build the kernel on my own :)
