Hi,

I just bought an audiophile 2496 card to replace my
ensoniq 1371 card.

I loaded the alsa 0.9beta12 drivers succesfully, but
when I play some audio I get drop-outs every 30 seconds
or so, the audio seems to quickly fade-out/fade-in.
I think it becomes worse if the harddisk or CPU is busy
when I'm surfing the web for example at the same time.

I'm wondering if other people have seen this or not.
>From what I was reading, this looks like a popular sound
card. I looked at the alsa mailing list archive and
also usenet and couldn't find anything similar.

The card share some IRQ with other devices, but this is
how I had it setup before on my ensoniq and I never
had this problem. I don't think it would be possible
to assign it a dedicated IRQ with my motherboard (asus CU2CL).

I have dma turned on for my IDE drives, and they run in
the default 16 bit mode. I saw something in oss/commercial about
turning 32 bit mode on for those cards but I didn't try it yet
because last time I tried that, one of my Western Digital drives
started to get some ide errors, but I won't go there now :)

Also, I'm assuming that it's normal that there is no
other mixer available than the envy24control program
which means that in xmms for example, I can't ajust
the volume other than going to my receiver or using the
envy24control program?

As a final question, I would like to avoid software resampling
so is there any setting I can set to make sure the internal
sampling rate is "unlocked" which means that the application will
open and the sampling rate in the hardware will match the software
so that I get the best quality at all time.

Those are the two only issues that I encoutered so far
but I'm still testing. I would hate to have to go back
to my ensoniq card, I hope I can really find what's causing
this.

I'm using Mandrake 8.2 with kernel 2.4.18

Let me know
