As to devsf/ALSA conflict...

This has been a major issue as of late, so I wanted to redirect this posting as
a general "note to Mandrake users".

You CAN adjust the devfs setup to work with ALSA if you want (there is info
elsewhere on this listserver for mofifying your /etc/module.devfs if you are
hell-bent of using devfs), but I don't see the point.  Just turn it off as
noted below, and make sure to fix the dead "/dev/snd" link problem (also noted
below).  This caused me a week or so of headaches before I spotted it, and I
hope I can spare you the pain.
