I've gotten beta12 compiled and installed on my system
(alsa-{driver,lib,oss-compat,utils}), and I've set up modules.conf
and devfs.conf to autoload everything.
When I run alsa-mixer and unmute and set everything to 100% I get no
sound whatsoever. There aren't any messages being logged except for
some PCI sharing messages (even with --with-debug=detect).

Afterwards the following (additional) modules are loaded:

snd-ac97-codec
snd-mpu401-uart
snd-rawmidi
snd-seq-device
snd
I'm running on kernel 2.4.19-pre6 (experienced the same problems with
pre3).
