Hi--
The subject line pretty much says it all.

I'm new to Linux and ALSA, and am trying to get some clear, plain-spoken
instructions regarding getting this soundcard set up so that I can get some
recording software and record.

I've done as many as 18 simultaneous mono 16-bit/44.1k tracks on my system a
few years ago using (ugh) Win NT4.0 and CoolEdit Pro 1.1 (on a 5400RPM 10G
HDD and with only 128Mb of ram), so I know the soundcard is physically
capable for recording, but I've recently given up on M$FT Window$.

I'm currently running RedHat 7.2 (2.4.7-10 kernel, but will upgrade to
2.4.9-34 again ASAP) on a mongrel AMD K6-III 450MHz system with a 7200RPM 27G
HDD and the previously-mentioned 10G drive, 256Mb of ram, and (finally) a CD
Burner (speakin-o-which I need to learn how to use it with Linux--how does
one make an *audio* CD? I can do *data*, no prob...) to burn final product
and such with.

I've read the FAQs, attempted to compile and install it on 2.4.9-34, but
ended up mangling it so bad that I had to reinstall the software (so much for
the 30 hour 2.4.9-34 download--I'll have to borry my friend Michael's cable
modem next time.... :^D) to get the sound card to work again.

Heeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllp! :^)

Thanks in advance!

C ya,
Dutch
